The idle air control valve (IACV) is an electromechanical component responsible for regulating engine speed when the throttle is closed. It achieves this by controlling the amount of air bypassing the throttle plate and entering the engine during idle. Functionally, it maintains a stable engine speed during idle, preventing stalling or rough idling, particularly when engine load changes due to accessories like air conditioning or power steering.
